While so much documentary work focuses on the negatives of teen pregnancy, I sought to reveal the joys of parenting that also exist. While the challenges are certainly great, many teenagers become more mature and responsible as they strive to become good parents.

Seeking to show today's high school students simply as they are as individuals, I followed the styles of Sanders and Avedon in removing all context. The viewer must meet these teenagers on their own terms.

These are 31 of 183 prints made during each weekday while I taught high school from August 2005-May 2006. Each print is warm-tone fiber paper exposed by the sunlight for 6-10 hours. The composition is made of any organic material I found on the way to school or around my car.
